Burke, Rush Expectations, P3, and George/Hayward – The SCH Saturday Show

September 30th, 2013 | by Andy Larsen

On this week’s Salt City Hoops Saturday Show, Austin Horton and Andy Larsen are joined by Daniel Tate of the WeAreJazzNation pages, representative of the voice of the fan. Besides giving away a autographed Trey Burke photo to the best caller, the group talks whether or not Trey Burke will start (and the consequences if he doesn’t) and what constitutes fair expectations for Brandon Rush. We also take a brief look at Scott Stevens’ P3 post, and discuss whether Paul George’s max deal makes an extension for Gordon Hayward impossible.

Concerning Trey Burke’s summer league and if Summer league is a good indicator of future success.

Andy quotes Kevin Pelton as saying that Summer league is just as strong as an indicator for future success as college ball. What I read from Pelton though was that there were some summer league indicators that had no correlation to future success, and shooting was one of them. I do think Trey Burke’s apparent struggles on defense should give us caution for his future performance, but not his poor shooting.

How would we be viewing Trey’s season this year if he shot great during the Summer league? That’s how we should be viewing his summer league considering he did that in college, and shooting is not a good indicator in summer league.
