December 15th, 2009 | by Spencer Hall

On a night that saw the Jazz drop a second game to the cellar-dwelling Minnesota Timberwolves for the second time in a month, the Utah Flash went the opposite direction and scored a nice 104-98 win over regional rival Idaho.

The Flash announced a crowd of 6,127, their third straight home game with at least 6,000 fans. From the recap:

The Flash were down 11 with 6:00 left in the half but responded with a 16-4 run to end the quarter shooting over 50 percent from the field. Andre Ingram led the charge for the Flash scoring 11 points in the quarter. Cedric Simmons added eight in the quarter Idaho.

The start of the third period looked like a dunk contest when Carlos Wheeler started if off with a two hand break away windmill dunk which was then followed by a big dunk from Cedric Simmons of the Stampede on the other end. Wheeler later had two dunks, one an impressive ally-oop slam, which increased the lead to nine with the score 79-70 with under two minutes to play. Orien Greene chipped in seven points in the quarter.

The Flash scored to start the fourth quarter making it a 10 point lead. Idaho made it close bringing the game to a tie at 92 midway through the fourth but were held to only six points the rest of the game thanks to great team defense from the Flash. Andre Ingram hit the dagger 3-point shot in the final seconds of the game to seal the victory. This is the first game of the season that Idaho did not reach the century mark in scoring.

Sundiata Gaines, the league leader in points at 27.3 per game, was held to just 14. Cedric Simmons led the way for Idaho putting in 26 points on 11-17 shooting from the field. The Utah Flash were led by Carlos Wheeler’s 24 points and seven rebounds. Ingram added 21 and Jefferson had 19 points and seven assists.

The Flash improve to 6-2 on the season as the Idaho Stampede drop to 4-3. The Utah Flash will play their next home game on New Year’s Eve at 7: 00 p.m.
