On this week’s episode, we invite members from around the Jazz community to share their A-F grades of the Jazz’s offseason thus far. We’re joined by:

  • Laura Thompson, writer for Salt City Hoops, can be found @hoopslaureate on Twitter.
  • Jon Oglesby, who covers the Jazz for KSL.com and is the voice of University of Utah baseball, softball, and volleyball.
  • Jimbo Rudding, new mailbag host for Salt City Hoops, host of the Utah Jazz Podcast, and owner of the fantastic @JimboRudding account.
  • Trevor Allen, ESPN700 Producer and @ESPN700Trevor on Twitter.
  • And Clark Schmutz, writer for SLCDunk and former co-host of the Clark and Andy Show.

After getting their offseason grades, co-host Ben Dowsett and Andy add their own grades. Finally, we wrap up with the Crazy Trade Idea of the Week. This one’s really big: a three team deal involving the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Houston Rockets, and the Utah Jazz. All that and more on this week’s show!

Usually enjoy podcast. But this one was just a rerun (word perfect) of last weeks podcast on the Beat writer. Once was good information but twice????

Hmm… looks like I uploaded the wrong podcast player at first. This one is actually very different than last week’s… try it now?

Now looks like the new podcast got put to the side and the old one with the body of the new article. Anyway don’t like the trade idea whatsoever. Thought Oglesby was spot on. He was the best at the grades. Rudding should get a F-.. I guess when the cake is baked and served we will all findout the results. I look for a fun season. I also think Hood will be a better surprise than not. May have some crow served later on??

+1 for the Clark and Andy show!!!!!

I would give the Jazz a B- in the offseason overall.

Hiring Quin Snyder and coaching staff was a great move, Rigby said the Jazz marry a coach, Quin was the perfect match. But it took them a while, and I was doubtful they’d get a coach before the draft. That tells me he wasn’t their first choice. (I think Jeff Gundy was the first choice) Grade: B+

The draft was perfect, no mistakes there, they did get lucky that nobody before them picked Exum or Hood. Grade: A

I’m stoked that they kept Ian Clark, they turned Lucas, Murphy and Thomas into assets. Trevor Booker will have a great impact on the bigs, and small impact through the whole team to hustle. Grade: C

Matching Hayward was the right thing to do, they would’ve gotten an A- on this one if Hayward was getting paid 10 mil/yr. But he’s getting paid 15 mil/yr, so the grade is C.

I’m pleased with the offseason, but you can’t give any team a grade higher than B+ unless they wooed a superstar to their team, so Cleveland won the offseason. (By the way, the Kevin Love/Andrew Wiggins/Thaddeus Young deal is official)
