The Brothers Clayton get together once again for a half hour podcast to talk about the first day of the NBA’s free agency period. They look to answer the question: what type of free agent helps the Jazz most? What is Dennis Lindsey looking for? Can the Jazz find their own David West?

Gordon Hayward is worth the 15 mil we live in Utah to get people to stay we have to open our pockets and pay them

Gordon is not a max player. Everyone knows this. Overpaying for a player is bad. That’s why we call them “bad” contracts. Did we already forget the Kirilenko max deal? That was a mistake in hindsight, and he looked like a much more promising player at the time as he was a deserved all-star and defensive juggernaut.

We can’t pretend that overpaying him would have no repercussions down the road. We may have to pay Burks, Kanter, Burke, Exum and others, in addition to Favors’ already large contract.

Look at the contracts of the San Antonio Spurs, and consider Lindsey’s Spurs heritage. I really doubt that we would match a max contract, and what do you know, Cleveland didn’t offer him one.

Absolutely agree. Hayward is not worth a max contract. He’s not a star, so don’t pay him like one. I think he is be worth 4 years 50 million. By the time that contract expires, him and Derrick Favors will be free agents. Dante Exum will be eligible for extension.

2018, the Jazz will be new contenders, with the Pelicans, Suns, and probably Lakers. Favors and Hayward realize they need to make flexibility for the Jazz to sign free agents, and take paycuts to 8-9 million/yr. Dante Exum gets a max contract.
