2020 Free Agent Tracker (With Thoughts On Jazz Fit For Each)

November 19th, 2020 | by Dan Clayton

Harris, Holiday and Favors are veteran free agents who could be on Utah’s radar.

Bookmark this page now. You’ll be coming back to it. Trust me.

Here is a list of literally every restricted and unrestricted free agent who finished last season on a standard NBA contract, listed in order of Wins Above Replacement. We also offer an educated guess as to whether each guy makes sense as a Jazz target.

We’ll update this multiple times a day throughout free agency, so you can check back and see the status of who is and isn’t available as free agent commitments are announced over the next several days.

Last updated December 14 at 8:43 a.m. MST. — likely the last update since most free agency moves from here on out will just be training camp waivers and end-of-roster shuffling.

Anthony Davis (Lakers), 14.6 Wins Above Replacement – Finalizing a 5-year max deal to stay in LA

  • Declined PO, Big, $27M last season
  • Logical Jazz target? Davis is widely expected to remain a Laker.

Hassan Whiteside (Blazers), 7.0 WAR – 1-year deal with Sacramento

    • UFA, Big, $27M
    • Logical Jazz target? Whiteside will command more money than the Jazz can offer and a bigger role than they have room to accommodate with Rudy Gobert on their roster.

Danilo Gallinari (Thunder), 6.5 WAR – Agreed to a 3-year deal in Atlanta

    • UFA, Big, $22.6M
    • Logical Jazz target? The closest thing to a true star in the UFA class, but the Jazz don’t have a way of getting close to his price range. (He’s also a minus defender and the Jazz don’t really use 4s anyway.)

Fred VanVleet (Raptors), 6.2 WAR – 4/$85M deal to stay in Toronto

    • UFA, Point, $9.3M
    • Logical Jazz target? The Jazz don’t really need another point guard, but VanVleet has gotten so good that you can’t ignore him completely. In the unlikely event that they trade Mike Conley for a big body, FVV could come into play. Otherwise, Utah doesn’t have a role big enough to attract him.

Brandon Ingram (Pelicans), 5.9 WAR – 5-year max deal to stay in New Orleans

    • RFA, Wing, $21.8M
    • Logical Jazz target? Another All-Star whose current team has matching rights. Ingram isn’t going anywhere.

Montrezl Harrell (Clippers), 5.9 WAR – Agreeing to cross the arena and join the Lakers

    • UFA, Big, $6M
    • Logical Jazz target? Trez is small center, but he scores a bunch and protects the paint decently. The Sixth Man of the Year will probably have a lot of options after an 18.6-ppg season.

Gordon Hayward (Boston), 5.4 WAR – 4/$120M Charlotte

      • Declined PO, Wing, $32.7M
      • Logical Jazz target? The Jazz have no way of getting anywhere near Hayward’s price range, so this is a non starter… even without factoring in whatever bad blood might remain from Hayward’s hasty 2017 departure.

Christian Wood (Pistons), 4.6 WAR – 3/$41M sign-and-trade to Houston

      • UFA, Big, $1.6M
      • Logical Jazz target? A stretch 5 who can also finish pick-and-rolls and is a plus defender overall. He probably wants more than an exclusive backup role, though; could the Jazz carve some minutes for him at the 4, like they did for Derrick Favors?

Justin Holiday (Pacers), 4.1 WAR- 3/$18M deal to stay with Indiana

        • UFA, Wing, $4.8M
        • Logical Jazz target? You could argue that wing defense became Utah’s top proirity for the MLE after they drafted a big man on Wednesday. If that’s the case, Holiday is among the best 3-and-D guys in that range.

Nerlens Noel (Thunder), 4.1 WAR – 1-year deal with New York

          • UFA, Big, $2M
          • Logical Jazz target? Definitely should be on Utah’s radar if they feel like Udoka Azubuike needs some time before he’s the full-time backup. Noel is a springy athlete who blocks shots and is a better pick-and-roll finisher than people realize, but since he doesn’t space the floor, his hypothetical role for the Jazz is capped at low-minute backup (and emergency starter) on a playoff team. (Which was essentially his role in OKC.)

Jordan Clarkson (Jazz), 3.5 WAR – Agreed to a 4-year deal in Utah

            • UFA, Wing, $13.4M
            • Logical Jazz target? His placement on this list is a reminder of how much he helped the Jazz this past season; it’s also a reminder that his price range could quickly escalate beyond what Utah is comfortable paying a fourth guard.

Jakob Poeltl (Spurs), 3.5 WAR – Staying put for 3/$27M

            • RFA, Big, $3.8M
            • Logical Jazz target? It’s unclear where the line in the sand is that the Spurs would think twice about matching an offer for the former Utah Ute. He has only averaged 17 minutes per game as a Spur, but he’s a solid backup 5 and a bit of a plus-minus superstar.

Bogdan Bogdanovic (Kings), 3.2 WAR – 4/$72M offer sheet with Atlanta, Sacramento will not match

            • RFA, Wing, $8.5M
            • Logical Jazz target? Wait, what?? Bogdanovic is back to being available after his deal to Milwaukee was called off. The Jazz like him, but they don’t have a way to get to his price, or a role to offer him..

Marc Gasol (Raptors), 3.0 WAR – After originally signaling interest in returning to Spain, Gasol will sign with the Lakers for two years instead

Mason Plumlee (Nuggets), 3.0 WAR – Agreed to 3/$25M with Detroit

            • UFA, Big, $14M
            • Logical Jazz target? Plumlee has already been a backup to an All-NBA center, and he’s dang good in that role. He’s a good athlete, decent defensively, and can finish around the rim.

Davis Bertans (Wizards), 3.0 WAR – Agreeing to stay in Washington, 5/$80M

            • UFA, Big, $7M
            • Logical Jazz target? Bertans would be a very different type of big from what the Jazz were used to, but man can he fill it up from deep. He’s a minus defender, though, so I’m not sure he checks Utah’s boxes.

Alec Burks (Sixers), 3.0 WAR – One-year deal in NYK, $6M

            • UFA, Wing, $2M
            • Logical Jazz target? It’s unlikely the Jazz revisit this relationship, primarily because he doesn’t match the defensive profile they’re trying to fill.

Joe Harris (Nets), 2.7 WAR – Staying with the Nets, 4/$75M

            • UFA, Wing, $7.7M
            • Logical Jazz target? This still isn’t super likely, but the Jazz selecting a big in the draft could mean the full MLE is available for a big shooting wing who can guard. Harris will have a lot of suitors, though.

Derrick Jones Jr. (Heat), 2.7 WAR – 2/$19M with Portland

            • UFA, Wing, $1.6M
            • Logical Jazz target? I doubt it. A lot of Jazz fans like his athleticism, but if you look closely at the numbers, you’ll find that he lacks both spot-up shooting and decent on-ball defensive outcomes — two things Utah needs from its wings.

Derrick Favors (Pelicans), 2.7 WAR – Favors will sign a 3-year deal in Utah

            • UFA, Big, $17.7M
            • Logical Jazz target? The question now is simple: do the Jazz think their rookie big man is going to be ready right away? Or do they want a more mature backup 5 while Azubuike learns the NBA game? Obviously there is a reason Jazz fans have pined for his return: his paint protection and rim finishing would really help the bench units.

Marcus Morris (Clippers), 2.4 WAR – Staying with the Clippers for 4/$64M

            • UFA, Big, $15M
            • Logical Jazz target? If he’d come and if the Jazz could afford him, sure. Morris is coming off 12 ppg in the playoffs on 51-48-93 shooting, and he does OK guarding wings and (some) bigs.

Jae Crowder (Heat), 2.4 WAR – 3/$30M deal with Phoenix

            • UFA, Wing, $7.8M
            • Logical Jazz target? He’s an inconsistent outside shooter, and he’s more “tough guy” than “defensive stopper,” but Crowder was a fan favorite his first time around in Utah.

Serge Ibaka (Raptors), 2.2 WAR – 2 years (with a PO) with the Clippers, $19M

            • UFA, Big, $23.3M
            • Logical Jazz target? Ibaka has played almost exclusively at center the past two seasons, but he has also played a lot more minutes than he would get as Gobert’s backup. He’s also 31 and would cost a lot, but he would no doubt be a huge upgrade.

Goran Dragic (Heat), 2.2 WAR – Re-signing with Miami, 2/$37M

            • UFA, Point, $19.2M
            • Logical Jazz target? Dragic was averaging 20 in the playoffs before he tore a tendon in his foot. That’s a tough injury for a 34-year-old, and he’s someone who in the first place only made sense for Utah if they moved on from Conley.

Pat Connaughton (Bucks), 2.2 WAR – Staying in Milwaukee, 3/$16M

            • UFA, Wing, $1.7M
            • Logical Jazz target? He doesn’t have great size for a wing and his outside shooting is just OK, but he’s a good defender and could be a nice depth piece, if he’s cheap enough.

Chris Boucher (Raptors), 2.2 WAR – 2/$13.5M deal to stay in Toronto

            • RFA, Big, $1.6M
            • Logical Jazz target? Boucher was an advanced stats and plus-minus darling in his first season with a regular (albeit low-minute) role in Toronto. He can play some center, so the Jazz will keep an ear to the ground to see if there’s a point at which Toronto wouldn’t match an offer.

Willie Cauley-Stein (Mavs), 1.9 WAR – Stayed in Dallas for 2/$8.2M (TO)

            • Declined PO, Big, $2.2M
            • Logical Jazz target? A good rolling big man with a decent ability to guard in space. He should definitely be on Utah’s list of options if they want more big man depth while Azubuike adjusts to pro life.

Jerami Grant (Nuggets), 1.9 WAR – Agreed to a 3-year deal with Detroit

            • Declined PO, Big, $9.3M
            • Logical Jazz target? Grant would make sense for the Jazz, but he’s expected to re-up in Denver, at a price point the Jazz couldn’t afford anyway.

Paul Millsap (Nuggets), 1.9 WAR – 1-year deal to stay in Denver ($10M)

            • UFA, Big, $30.4M
            • Logical Jazz target? The beloved former Jazzman just doesn’t fit this time around. At 36 and with his size and speed, he’s a pure 4 at a time when Utah just doesn’t use them.

Dario Saric (Suns), 1.9 WAR – 3/$27M to stay in Phoenix

            • RFA, Big, $3.5M
            • Logical Jazz target? Phoenix controls his destiny anyway, and he’s a minus defender who isn’t quite good enough from outside to justify a stretch 4 title.

Dwight Howard (Lakers), 1.9 WAR – Agreed to join the Sixers for the minimum

            • UFA, Big, $2.6M
            • Logical Jazz target? Dwight played precisely the role in L.A. that Utah needs to fill behind Gobert — a backup center with minutes in the teens — but it doesn’t seem like he’ll be looking to change addresses after a nice resurrection with the champs.

            Ersan Ilyasolva (Bucks), 1.6 WAR

            • Waived, Big, $7M
            • Logical Jazz target? He continues to see his minutes and opportunities drop, and even though he’s a pretty consistent 36% outside shooter, I’m not sure he finds his way into Utah’s rotation.

Elfrid Payton (Knicks), 1.6 WAR – 1/$5M deal to stay in New York

            • UFA, Wing, $2.5M
            • Logical Jazz target? Again, the Jazz aren’t really shopping for another ball-handling guard — especially one who can’t shoot.

            Rondae Hollis-Jefferson (Raptors), 1.6 WAR – 1-year non-guaranteed deal with Minnesota

            • UFA, Wing, $2.5M
            • Logical Jazz target? Maybe. RHJ has an NBA body and some defensive chops, but his lack of outside shooting has caused his role to contract year-over-year. His 2019-20 minute averages were a career low. Can he fix his shot?

Shaquille Harrison (Bulls), 1.6 WAR – One-year deal with Utah at the minimum

            • UFA, Wing, $1.6M
            • Logical Jazz target? Absolutely. Warning; he’s not really 6-foot-7 as his listed height suggests. But at 6-foot-4 with good length, Harrison has established himself as a frisky wing defender who also has some facilitation skills and an improving outside shot.

Jevon Carter (Suns), 1.6 WAR – 3/$11.5M to stay win the Suns

            • RFA, Point, $1.4M
            • Logical Jazz target? No. Carter is a defensive pest, and the list of teams he has harassed includes the Jazz. But he would make the Jazz’s guardline even tinier — and he’s restricted anyway.

JaMychal Green (Clippers), 1.4 WAR – Agreed to a two-year deal (w/ PO) at $15M with Denver

            • PO declined, Big, $4.8M
            • Logical Jazz target? Green is a 4, but he’s a bit more mobile on defense than a pure-PF plodder, plus he can shoot. So this could be an interesting one for the Jazz now that he’s available, but he’s going to get a lot of interest.

            Kentavious Caldwell-Pope (Lakers), 1.4 WAR – 3/$40M to stay in L.A.

            • Declined PO, Wing, $8.1M
            • Logical Jazz target? KCP is a decent shooter and defender on the wing, and now has championship experience. But we’ll see if he’s actually available.

Maurice Harkless (Knicks), 1.4 WAR – 1 year deal at the BAE with Miami

            • UFA, Wing, $11M
            • Logical Jazz target? Maybe. Harkless is pretty inconsistent as a shooter and a defender, but he has nice size and eight years of experience on (mostly) winning outfits.

Langston Galloway (Pistons), 1.4 WAR – Agreed with Phoenix

            • UFA, Point, $7.3M
            • Logical Jazz target? If he would accept a deep bench role and a deep bench type of paycheck, he wouldn’t be a bad third point guard, but he probably will get better offers than that given his improved shooting.

Patrick Patterson (Clippers), 1.4 WAR – Returning to LAC on a 1-year deal

            • UFA, Big, $2.3M
            • Logical Jazz target? Not that long ago, I was really high on PatPat as a Jazz option. Since then, the journeyman forward has seen his production dip and his defense worsen. Plus, as noted elsewhere, the Jazz don’t really play pure 4s anymore.

            Kyle Korver (Bucks), 1.4 WAR

            • UFA, Wing, $2.6M
            • Logical Jazz target? Lindsey made it clear that defensive ability is going to be primary criterion for new additions, and Korver’s defense is the reason they essentially couldn’t play him in the 2019 playoffs. As good a story as it would be for Korver to re-reunite with the Jazz, it’s not happening.

Michael Carter-Wililams (Magic), 1.4 WAR – Staying in Orlando on a 1-year deal

            • UFA, Point, $1.9M
            • Logical Jazz target? MCW is a non-shooter and just an OK defender, so probably not a fit for what the Jazz are after.

Brad Wanamaker (Celtics), 1.4 WAR – 1/$2.25M Golden State

            • UFA, Point, $1.4M
            • Logical Jazz target? Wanamaker has shown some stuff, but he’s another small guard. Boston made him unrestricted by declining to extend a qualifying offer.

            De’Anthony Melton (Grizzlies), 1.4 WAR – Re-signed with Memphis for 4/$35M

            • RFA, Point, $1.4M
            • Logical Jazz target? Another tiny guard whose team can match offers, and Melton is a shaky shooter to boot.

Jeff Green (Rockets), 1.4 WAR – 1-year deal with Brooklyn

            • UFA, Big, $2.6M (prorated)
            • Logical Jazz target? Safe to say that Green and the Jazz discovered last winter that they just don’t fit.

Garrett Temple (Nets), 1.1 WAR – 1 year, $5M with Chicago

            • TO declined, Wing, $4.8
            • Logical Jazz target? At 6’5″, he’s not exactly the *big* wing everybody’s been talking about, but he’s got defensive chops. You’d ideally like his 3-point shooting to be a little more steady though: just 33% last year, under 35% for his career.
            John Henson (Pistons), 1.1 WAR
            • UFA, Big, $9.7M
            • Logical Jazz target? At this point Henson is teetering on the edge of the rotation — for bad teams. That said, he still has a positive impact on the defense when he plays, and he’s even started to take some 3s… with varying results.

Kris Dunn (Bulls), 1.1 WAR – 2/$10M deal in Atlanta (PO)

            • UFA, Point, $5.3M
            • Logical Jazz target? Dunn isn’t really a pick-and-roll point guard or a shooter, but he can certainly defend. He’s no longer restricted, but I doubt the Jazz go after him.

            Kyle O’Quinn (Sixers), 1.1 WAR

            • UFA, Big, $2.2M
            • Logical Jazz target? These days, it’s hard to make a living as an NBA big if you don’t either protect the rim or space the floor. O’Quinn doesn’t do either, which is why he spent most of the season outside Philly’s rotation.

Marvin Williams (Bucks), 1.1 WAR – Retiring

Frank Kaminsky (Suns), 0.8 WAR – 1-tyear deal with the Kings

              • TO Declined, Big, $4.8M
              • Logical Jazz target? The opposite of a Gobert (or Azubuike) type center, Frank is a shooting 5, but weirdly his shooting numbers aren’t all that great. He has next to zero impact on defense, though, so it’s hard to envision this one, unless Utah just wants a slightly different look out of their third center.

Bobby Portis (Knicks), 0.8 WAR – Signed a 2-year deal (PO) with Milwaukee

              • TO Declined, Big, $15M
              • Logical Jazz target? The Jazz haven’t really employed pure 4s during the Quin Snyder era, and they just drafted a center to take most of the minutes behind Gobert. Portis would definitely add some more length and shooting at the big man rotation, but I’m not sure he’s a serious target.

Meyers Leonard (Heat), 0.8 WAR – Re-signing with Miami (2 yr, TO)

              • UFA, Big, $11.3M
              • Logical Jazz target? Maybe. He’s nowhere near as good at protecting the paint as the Favors/Noel/Plumlee class of free agent bigs, but he would give the Jazz a different look with some 5-out lineups: he has shot 43% from deep over the past three seasons. He can finish P&Rs, too.

Alex Len (Kings), 0.8 WAR – Agreed with the Raptors

              • UFA, Big, $4.2M
              • Logical Jazz target? He’s pretty average as a roll man and as a defensive presence, but he could help as a deep bench big — the role he played in a partial season in Sacramento.

                Shabazz Napier (Wizards), 0.8 WAR

                • UFA, Point, $1.8M
                • Logical Jazz target? At some point Utah will need to think about a third point guard for insurance (since it’s presumed Emmanuel Mudiay is leaving), but Napier probably expects a bigger role after averaging 24mpg this season.

Reggie Jackson (Clippers), 0.8 WAR – 1-year deal with LAC

                • UFA, Point, $2.3M (prorated)
                • Logical Jazz target? Jackson is too good to take a deep bench role, not good enough to displace Conley or (duh) Donovan Mitchell.

                Taj Gibson (Knicks), 0.5 WAR

                • Waived, Big, $9M
                • Logical Jazz target? If I was dubious about Portis, whom the Knicks also set loose on Thursday, then Taj makes even less sense as a pure 4 who doesn’t shoot 3s and doesn’t protect the rim.

Rajon Rondo (Lakers), 0.5 WAR – 2/$15M with Atlanta

                • Declined PO, Point, $2.6M
                • Logical Jazz target? He’s reportedly interested in joining the Clippers after winning his second ring, but the Jazz likely don’t have a role for him anyway.

Rodney Hood (Blazers), 0.5 WAR – Hood will be staying in Portland on a 2-year deal with a team option

                • Declined PO, Wing, $5.7M
                • Logical Jazz target? The former Jazz wing can shoot and run some P&R, but a reunion here would hinge on the Jazz’s confidence around his defensive improvements, not to mention his injury rehab.

Jeff Teague (Hawks), 0.5 WAR – 1-year deal with Boston

                • UFA, Point, $2M
                • Logical Jazz target? Just copy and paste the Jackson comment above: Teague is too good to take a deep bench role, not good enough to displace Conley or (duh) Donovan Mitchell.

Tristan Thompson (Cavs), 0.5 WAR – 2/$19M Boston

                • UFA, Big, $18.5M
                • Logical Jazz target? TT is a pure center at this point, which means that for him to make sense in Utah, he’d have to agree to a reserve role with minutes in the teens — something he’s probably not ready to do after starting in 70% of his career games.

D.J. Augustin (Magic), 0.5 WAR – 3/$21M deal with Milwaukee

                • UFA, Point, $7.3M
                • Logical Jazz target? The journeyman would be a great fit in Mudiay’s role, but he has been playing starter minutes for Orlando, so it’s unlikely he’d take a job as an insurance policy and towel-waver.

Josh Jackson (Grizzlies), 0.5 WAR – Agreed to a deal with Detroit

                • UFA, Wing, $7M
                • Logical Jazz target? Maybe as a deep bench flier, but not for their rotation. His agent — B.J. Armstrong — is the same guy who encouraged another former lotto pick (Mudiay) to spend a year in Utah rehabilitating his career.

Aron Baynes (Suns), 0.5 WAR -2/$14M deal with Toronto

                • UFA, Big, $5.5M
                • Logical Jazz target? Baynes had a career-best year, but wasn’t quite as good after some winter injuries (a 37-and-16 game in March notwithstanding). He can knock down 3-point shots (35% on the year, although again: 30% from December on) and also finish on the roll, and he’s a decent defender even without Gobert’s or Favors’ length.

Denzel Valentine (Bulls), 0.5 WAR – Took the 1-year QO from Chicago

                • RFA, Wing, $3.4M
                • Logical Jazz target? He’s a small wing, and he hasn’t always lived up to his defensive billing, but Chicago has matching rights and appears intent to keep him.

Jahlil Okafor (Pelicans), 0.5 WAR – Agreed with Detroit (min)

                • UFA, Big, $1.7M
                • Logical Jazz target? Doubtful. The former top-3 pick doesn’t protect the paint or space the floor, although he is a decent roll finisher. There are better options, even in the discount big tier.

Willy Hernangomez (Hornets), 0.5 WAR – 1-year minimum deal with NOP

                • UFA, Big, $1.7M
                • Logical Jazz target? Willy has OK defensive numbers overall (+.83 D-PIPM) even though he’s also not a shot-blocker. He doesn’t really take threes, but he takes and makes enough shots away from the rim to think he could occasionally pop to the elbow to let second-unit creators head into a less crowded paint.

Trey Burke (Mavs), 0.5 WAR – Staying in Dallas, 3/$10M

                • UFA, Point, $2.3M (prorated)
                • Logical Jazz target? Props to Trey for resurrecting his career with really nice play in the bubble for the playoff-relevant Mavs. That said, I don’t think the Jazz are going there.

Chimezie Metu (Spurs), 0.3 WAR – Kings deal, possibly a non-guaranteed camp deal

                • Waived, Big, $1.4M
                • Logical Jazz target? The Jazz probably won’t be in the market for a project big, especially one who doesn’t block shots or space the floor.

                Cheick Diallo (Suns), 0.3 WAR

                • Declined TO, Big, $2.6M
                • Logical Jazz target? Diallo is a hard worker but small for his position, and he is neither a floor space nor a great paint protector.

Wesley Matthews (Bucks), 0.3 WAR – Signing with the Lakers

                • Declined PO, Wing, $2.6M
                • Logical Jazz target? He has exactly the blend of wing defense and shooting the Jazz are looking for, but rumor has it he has his eyes on helping the the Lakers’ title defense.

                Courtney Lee (Mavs), 0.3 WAR

                • UFA, Wing, $12.8M
                • Logical Jazz target? He just turned 35 and he has essentially been a non-rotation veteran for the last three seasons, so the Jazz would have to decide if they felt like he had enough defensive ability left to bring the 39% career outside shooter in.

Solomon Hill (Heat), 0.3 WAR – 1-year deal with Atlanta

                • UFA, Wing, $12.8M
                • Logical Jazz target? Hill is coming off his best outside shooting year (37%), but I’d trust the larger sample here and say he’s not the kind of outside threat who actually bends defenses. He is also far from a stopper, despite good wing size.

Thon Maker (Pistons), 0.3 WAR – Agreed with Cleveland, presumably on a 1-year, minimum deal

                • UFA, Big, $3.6M
                • Logical Jazz target? Detroit probably won’t dangle the $4.6M qualifying offer in front of him, which means he’ll likely be unrestricted (Update: he is). But there are reasons he barely played in Detroit this season. Someone might take a shot and give him a developmental deep bench spot.

Harry Giles (Kings), 0.3 WAR – One-year deal with Portland

                • UFA, Big, $2.6M
                • Logical Jazz target? Giles played a lot more center last season, and could be seen as a bargain project for the deep bench. In theory he is a skilled big who can score in space a little bit. Could be worth a look if he’s cheap.

Skal Labissierre (Hawks), 0.3 WAR – Camp deal w/ NYK (reportedly for G League rights)

                • UFA, Big, $2.3M
                • Logical Jazz target? Skal never made it back to the rotation after a December knee injury, and he’s only topped 700 season minutes once in his career. He’s probably not the answer, unless Utah just wants a deep bench flier.

Damian Jones (Hawks), 0.3 WAR – 2-year deal with Phoenix

                • RFA, Big, $2.3M
                • Logical Jazz target? Jones is a decent shot-blocker at his position, but not really a paint protector in absolute terms. As with other replacement-level bigs at the minimum, this is probably only an interesting option if the Jazz moved on from Bradley and needed a third center for insurance purposes.

Noah Vonleh (Nuggets), 0.3 WAR – 1-year deal with Chicago

                • UFA, Big, $2M
                • Logical Jazz target? As we’ves said elsewhere, it’s hard to land a rotation role as a big if you don’t protect the paint (1.3% block percentage last year) or space the floor (20% from three), which is probably why Vonleh keeps seeing his minutes drop.

                Jordan McRae (Pistons), 0.3 WAR

                • UFA, Wing, $1.6M
                • Logical Jazz target? McRae had games of 35, 29 (twice) and 21 for Washington — and then he was traded, waived, and claimed off waivers. The combo guard is too small to solve Utah’s wing defense issues, and he’s a minus defender overall. That said, he could be a deep bench guard in Mudiay’s role.

J.J. Barea (Mavs), 0.3 WAR – Staying with Dallas on a 1-year deal

                • UFA, Point, $2.6M
                • Logical Jazz target? Barea saw limited action in the bubble, and word is that he is receiving interest from teams in Spain’s ACB league. Even if he does stay stateside, Utah probably doesn’t want to make its guardline smaller with the 5-foot-10 Puerto Rican.

                Thabo Sefolosha (Rockets), 0.3 WAR

                • UFA, Wing, $2.6M
                • Logical Jazz target? Sefolosha helped the Jazz in his two seasons, but the 36-year-old’s minutes have been on a steady decline, and he’s missed a quarter or more of each of the past four seasons.
Jakarr Sampson (Pacers), 0.3 WAR – Staying with Indiana on a 1-year, minimum deal
                • UFA, Wing, $1.7M
                • Logical Jazz target? Sampson is not a shooter, but was solid defensively in spot minutes for Indiana. Someone will give him a look at the minimum, but the 25% career 3-point shooting might be a deal-breaker for Utah.

Jared Dudley (Lakers), 0.3 WAR – 1-year deal to return to LAL

                • UFA, Big, $2.6M
                • Logical Jazz target? Dudley is a wing-turned-smallball 4 who makes outside shots and posts decent D-PIPM over time — but he barely played in L.A. this season.

Glenn Robinson III (Sixers), 0.3 WAR – 1-year deal with Sacramento

                • UFA, Wing, $1.9M
                • Logical Jazz target? Robinson is a good outside shooter, but his defensive numbers are rough, both overall and on the individual play types where a modern wing has to be able to guard (iso, P&R handler, etc.).

Damyean Dotson (Knicks), 0.3 WAR – 2/$4M deal with Cleveland

                • UFA, Wing, $1.6M
                • Logical Jazz target? Dotson can at least guard P&Rs with some success, even though his DRPM and D-PIPM point to a negative overall defender. And New York can pretty cheaply keep him if they want anyway.
Jontay Porter (Grizzlies), Did Not Play – 3-year deal to stay in Memphis
                • RFA, Big, $3.2M
                • Logical Jazz target? Porter signed a rest-of-season deal with Memphis right before the NBA season shut down in March, and then he never saw action in the “bubble” restart. They declined his second year option but will have matching rights.
Melvin Frazier (Magic), 0.0 WAR – Camp deal w/ OKC
                • UFA, Wing, $1.4M
                • Logical Jazz target? Frazier has barely played (170 total minutes over two seasons), so it’s hard to know what’s there. Now that Orlando opted out, someone might give the former No. 35 pick a look on an end-of-roster deal.
                Yogi Ferrell (Kings), 0.0 WAR
                • UFA, Point, $3.2M
                • Logical Jazz target? Ferrell is a tiny, shoot-first guard who is decent defensively on the ball. He’s another guy they could consider for Mudiay’s role: a third guard who plays when someone ahead of him on the depth chart is out.

Malik Beasley (Wolves), 0.0 WAR – Beasley will return to Minnesota for 4/$60M

                • RFA, Wing, $2.7M
                • Logical Jazz target? A rotational guard for four years in Denver, Beasley was shipped to Minny and averaged just over 20 in a partial season with the Wolves. So at this point, they probably have to match reasonable offers.

Bruno Caboclo (Rockets), 0.0 WAR – Staying in Houston on a minimum deal

                • UFA, Big, $1.9M
                • Logical Jazz target? He’s an athletic and long shot-blocking four, but he has been a replacement-level player for six seasons now, partially because he has a hard time converting, even at the rim.

Markieff Morris (Lakers), 0.0 WAR – Staying w/ LAL on a 1/Min deal

                • UFA, Big, $1.8M
                • Logical Jazz target? Morris has come through with some good shooting games in the playoffs, but advanced stats paint the picture of a guy who is mostly producing replacement-level impact since he left Phoenix five seasons ago.

                Tyson Chandler (Rockets), 0.0 WAR

                • UFA, Big, $2.6M
                • Logical Jazz target? The 38-year-old played just 219 minutes last year, which is why he’s considering retirement — but no decision made yet.

Raul Neto (Sixers), 0.0 WAR – Agreed to a one-year deal with Washington

                • UFA, Point, $1.7M
                • Logical Jazz target? The Jazz could do much worse for their third guard role than to bring back Neto, who has been hanging out with Gobert this offseason. But they’re also well aware of his limitations.

                Emmanuel Mudiay (Jazz), 0.0 WAR

                • UFA, Point, $1.7M
                • Logical Jazz target? Word is they’re ready to try something new. Mudiay is a non-shooter, so he’s mostly only a threat with the ball in his hands. But he also isn’t a natural distributor, so him having the ball often means Utah’s not really running their stuff.

Sterling Brown (Bucks), 0.0 WAR – 1-year minimum deal with Houston

                • RFA, Wing, $1.6M
                • Logical Jazz target? Yes. Brown was edged out of the rotation as Milwaukee loaded up with veterans, but when he has been in the rotation, he has been good. He’s the only free agent wing available who shot 35% or better on catch-and-shoot 3s, posted a postiive D-PIPM, and guarded better than average against iso scorers and P&R ball handlers..

                Malcolm Miller (Raptors), 0.0 WAR

                • RFA, Wing, $1.6M
                • Logical Jazz target? He could probably be pried away from We the North despite matching rights, but that’s because they don’t really use him — 355 minutes over three seasons.

Alize Johnson (Pacers), 0.0 WAR – Signing with Toronto

                • RFA, Big, $1.4M
                • Logical Jazz target? Johnson is a deep bench combo forward for Indiana, but his production in limited minutes (182 career minutes so far) has never been enough to scream, “Play me more, coach.”

Gary Payton II (Wizards), 0.0 WAR

                • UFA, Point, $1.1M
                • Logical Jazz target? The lefty point guard doesn’t shoot or defend well enough to get Utah’s attention for a third PG role.

Gary Clark (Magic), 0.0 WAR – 2-year deal just above the minimum to stay with Orlando

                • RFA, Wing, $1.4M (prorated)
                • Logical Jazz target? It was a roller-coaster second season for Clark: he was a two-way player, then got converted, then waived, then signed two 10-days, then signed a rest-of-year deal and played a bunch in the bubble. He has shown enough defensive ability and spot-up shooting to get a look, though Orlando can match.

                Dion Waiters (Lakers), 0.0 WAR

                • UFA, Wing, $2.2M (prorated)
                • Logical Jazz target? Waiters hasn’t been part of L.A.’s playoff rotation, and doesn’t check some of Utah’s boxes.

                Jamal Crawford (Nets), 0.0 WAR

                • UFA, Wing, $2.6M (prorated)
                • Logical Jazz target? Nope. Crawford is a walking bucket, but he doesn’t play any defense, which is why he posted one of the worst Net Ratings in the league in his last full season.

Luc Mbah a Moute (Rockets), 0.0 WAR

                • UFA, Wing, $2.6M (prorated)
                • Logical Jazz target? Like Crawford, Mbah a Moute finished the year on a bubble replacement contract; unlike Crawford, he’s known for his defense. The question here is does he have anything left in the tank at 34 and after some long-term injuries.

Sindarius Thornwell (Pelicans), 0.0 WAR – Staying with NOP on a minimum

                • UFA, Wing, $1.6M (prorated)
                • Logical Jazz target? No. Thornwell only made it on the court for two games this season after spending most of the year as a free agent.

                Corey Brewer (Kings), 0.0 WAR

                • UFA, Wing, $2.6M (prorated)
                • Logical Jazz target? No. The 12-year veteran keeps hanging around despite being a non-shooting shooting guard and having defensive numbers that have come back to the mean.

Jared Uthoff (Wizards), 0.0 WAR – Camp contract w/ NOP

                • UFA, Big, $1.6M (prorated)
                • Logical Jazz target? In theory, this guy can shoot a little as a skilled combo forward — but with only 16 NBA games under his belt, it’s hard to say he’s for sure an NBA-caliber talent at this point.

Wayne Ellington (Knicks), -0.3 WAR – 1-year minimum deal with Detroit

                  • Waived, Wing, $8M
                  • Logical Jazz target? The career 38% shooter from deep posted career lows across the board in his lone season as a Knick. At 33, he’ll likely land a rotation role somewhere.

Bismack Biyombo (Hornets), -0.3 WAR – Returning to Charlotte

                  • UFA, Big, $17M
                  • Logical Jazz target? If all the Jazz need behind Rudy (and while “Dok” grows into the game) is someone to finish pick-and-rolls and block shots for 15 minutes a game, they could see if Biyombo could be had cheaply.

                  Andre Roberson (Thunder), -0.3 WAR

                  • UFA, Wing, $10.7M
                  • Logical Jazz target? The defensive specialist made it back to the bubble after a long injury absence, but was still outside OKC’s rotation. He’s only 28 (29 in December), but he’s now missed all or most of three straight seasons, so any suitors will proceed with caution.

DeAndre’ Bembry (Hawks), -0.3 WAR – 2-year minimum deal with Toronto

                  • UFA, Wing, $2.6M
                  • Logical Jazz target? Bembry’s outside shooting leaves a lot to be desired, but he’s been an OK defender on and off. Atlanta will probably see if they can keep him cheaply.

Ante Zizic (Cavs), -0.3 WAR – Agreed overseas

Torrey Craig (Nuggets), -0.3 WAR – 1-year deal with Milwaukee

                    • UFA, Wing, $2M
                    • Logical Jazz target? Denver will probably match anything reasonable for Craig, the player Mitchell once called “a hell of a defender.” Update: no, they will not. They have pulled their QO, making Craig unrestricted. That’s a big development.

                    Wilson Chandler (Nets), -0.3 WAR

                    • UFA, Big, $2.6M
                    • Logical Jazz target? Chandler actually fits the mold of what Utah tends to look for in a modern PF, and he was good when he last had a regular role. The question is whether he, at 33, can get back to his Denver-era efficiency and defense.

Udonis Haslem (Heat), -0.3 WAR – Officially staying with Miami

                    • UFA, Big, $2.6M
                    • Logical Jazz target? No. After initially signaling that he was going to retire, it sounds like Haslem is going back to the Heat.

Wenyen Gabriel (Blazers), -0.3 WAR – Signed with NOP on a 2-year min deal

                    • UFA, Big, $1.4M
                    • Logical Jazz target? With just 235 NBA minutes to his name, he hasn’t really earned anything above a minimum contract — and Portland would likely match that and keep the Sudanese project.

Kenrich Williams (Pelicans), -0.3 WAR – The Pels and Thunder needed some additional salary for the Steven Adams trade to work, so Williams was sign-and-traded to OKC on a 3-year deal starting at the minimum.

                    • RFA, Wing, $1.4M
                    • Logical Jazz target? Williams has shown some decent defensive ability, but just hasn’t been able to score with NBA-level efficiency.

                    DeMarre Carroll (Rockets), -0.3 WAR

                    • UFA, Wing, $2.6M (prorated)
                    • Logical Jazz target? Carroll had a bad year from three, but was a 36% shooter in the six previous seasons combined. His defensive impact numbers are right at the mean — both this year and on a multi-year basis.

Jerian Grant (Wizards), -0.3 WAR – Signed with Houston (camp deal?)

                    • UFA, Wing, $1.7M (prorated)
                    • Logical Jazz target? Grant showed shooting chops in Chicago and Orlando before having a rough six games as a bubble replacement for the Wiz. He could be a decent third PG option.

                    Donta Hall (Nets), -0.3 WAR

                    • RFA, Big, $900K (prorated)
                    • Logical Jazz target? The rookie got some decent run as a shot-blocking bubble replacement for Brooklyn. Now the Nets will have the opportunity to match offers, if they want it.

Avery Bradley (Lakers), -0.5 WAR – 2/$11.5M deal with Miami

                    • PO declined, Wing, $4.8M
                    • Logical Jazz target? He’s a solid perimeter defender and shooter. But his size is a bit of an issue, especially given Utah’s otherwise diminutive backcourt.

Quinn Cook (Lakers), -0.5 WAR – 1-year deal to return to LAL

                    • Waived, Point, $3M
                    • Logical Jazz target? He’s a good enough shooter that they might give him a look for the emergency third PG role.

Robin Lopez (Bucks), -0.5 WAR – Reportedly a 1-year deal with Washington near the MLE amount

                    • Declined PO, Big, $4.8M
                    • Logical Jazz target? Lopez is probably too good to play exclusively as Gobert’s backup, although he did average just 14.5 minutes last season in Milwaukee.

Austin Rivers (Rockets), -0.5 WAR – 3/$10M deal with New York

                    • Declined PO, Point, $2.2M
                    • Logical Jazz target? He’s only an OK shooter, and has one of the worst DRPMs in the league. Plus, he’s a small combo guard, which Utah doesn’t necessarily need more of.

James Ennis (Magic), -0.5 WAR – Staying with Orlando on a 1-year deal

                    • Declined PO, Wing, $1.9M
                    • Logical Jazz target? The journeyman guard probably isn’t a good enough shooter (32% from 3 last season) or defender to be an answer in Utah’s rotation.

Evan Turner (Wolves), -0.5 WAR – Becoming a coach

                    • UFA, Wing, $18.6M
                    • Logical Jazz target? Turner never debuted for the Wolves after his midseason trade from Atlanta. He did have a decent defensive year (in limited action) and he’s big, but as we keep saying, it’s a tough time for non-shooting wings right now.

                    Ian Mahinmi (Wizards), -0.5 WAR

                    • UFA, Big, $15.5M
                    • Logical Jazz target? Mahinmi is a decent paint protector, but produces very little offense. He finishes about 1.5 P&R plays per game and does do with league-average efficiency, and that’s ALL he does. He could be a decent low-minute backup, but you’d really be praying Gobert never had to miss any time.

E’Twaun Moore (Pelicans), -0.5 WAR – `1-year min deal with Phoenix

                    • UFA, Point, $8.7M
                    • Logical Jazz target? The sweet-shooting combo guard will probably expect more of a role than what Utah can offer him.

Marco Belinelli (Spurs), -0.5 WAR – Signing in Italy

                    • UFA, Wing, $5.8M
                    • Logical Jazz target? The 34-year-old Italian wing saw fewer minutes, shots and points than he had gotten since his rookie year. He’s good for pretty consistent 37% outside shooting, but he lacks the defensive qualities that Jazz brass say is a top priority.

Wesley Iwundu (Magic), -0.5 WAR – Agreeing with the Dallas Mavericks

                    • UFA, Wing, $1.6M
                    • Logical Jazz target? Iwundu is a big wing with defensive abilities and good catch-and-shoot numbers. If he could be pried away from Orlando (Update: He’s now unrestricted), he would be a solid addition to the back half of the rotation

                    Lance Thomas (Nets), -0.5 WAR

                    • UFA, Wing, $2.3M (prorated)
                    • Logical Jazz target? Thomas is an experienced combo forward with up-and-down shooting and middling defense at best. He spent most of the year unemployed before playing a bit role for Brooklyn as a bubble replacement signee.

Tyler Johnson (Nets), -0.5 WAR – Staying in Brooklyn on a 1-year deal

                    • UFA, Wing, $1.9M (prorated)
                    • Logical Jazz target? The Mose Schrute look-alike is a minus defender and an inconsistent shooter. Phoenix waived him mid-season, but then Brooklyn put him to work in the bubble, where he shot well.

Justin Anderson (Nets), -0.5 WAR – Staying with Nets on a partially guaranteed contract

                    • UFA, Wing, $1.7M (prorated)
                    • Logical Jazz target? Another bubble fill-in for the Nets, this lefty at least guards decently, but he’s never shot above 33% from downtown for a season.

                    J.R. Smith (Lakers), -0.5 WAR

                    • UFA, Wing, $2.6M (prorated)
                    • Logical Jazz target? No. The veteran missed all of last season and most of this one before the Lakers sent a bat signal his way. But he barely played in the bubble, and when he did the results weren’t great.

                    Brandon Knight (Pistons), -0.8 WAR

                    • UFA, Point, $15.6M
                    • Logical Jazz target? Like a lot of point guards on this list who are too good for a deep bench role but not good enough to ciphon minutes from Conley and Mitchell, Knight only makes sense as a Jazz target if there’s a larger roster shuffle coming.

Juancho Hernangomez (Wolves), -0.8 WAR – Agreed to stay put, 3/$12M

                    • RFA, Big, $3.3M
                    • Logical Jazz target? Juancho is the more skilled of the Hernangomez hermanos, but he’s not really equipped to play center. Utah could still look to add him (he’s not that far from what Nikola Mirotic is, and the Jazz liked him), but the matching rights could make that harder.

Bryn Forbes (Spurs), -0.8 WAR – 2-year deal with Milwaukee

                    • UFA, Point, $2.9M
                    • Logical Jazz target? He’s a small scoring guard who struggles on defense. Probably not a fit for Utah given their current needs.

                    Caleb Swanigan (Blazers), -0.8 WAR

                    • UFA, Big, $2M
                    • Logical Jazz target? Swanigan doesn’t protect the rim, guard in space, shoot from outside, or play a lot of pick-and-roll. All of that makes it hard to imagine where he fits in Utah’s system, on either end.

                    Anthony Tolliver (Grizzlies), -0.8 WAR

                    • UFA, Big, $2.6M (prorated)
                    • Logical Jazz target? Tolliver’s 35 and has barely played the last two seasons (<800 combined minutes). While I did advocate for him as an emergency signing to help Utah bridge a short-term dearth at the 4, his window to really contribute for Utah might be closing.

                    Deonte Burton (Thunder), -1.1 WAR

                    • TO declined, Wing, $1.4M
                    • Logical Jazz target? Burton barely played in two seasons with OKC, and doesn’t project as a rotation player based on his shooting (23% from 3) in those first 600 NBA minutes.

                    Taurean Prince (Nets), -1.1 WAR

                    • RFA, Wing, $3.5M
                    • Logical Jazz target? Selected by the Jazz for Atlanta as part of the George Hill trade, Prince is a decent outside shooter, but struggles to guard common wing play types. He could still be a decent get as a young 8th-man type with potential, but Brooklyn will likely match anything reasonable.

Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (Mavs), -1.1 WAR – 1-year deal with New York

                    • UFA, Wing, $2.2M (prorated)
                    • Logical Jazz target? MKG is an above-average defender and a former No. 2 pick, but his minutes have been steadily declining for years because he just can’t shoot.

Theo Pinson (Knicks), -1.4 WAR – Returning to NYK on a 2-way contract

                    • UFA, Wing, $1.4M
                    • Logical Jazz target? Pinson is a shooting guard who can’t shoot (37% true shooting last year) and his advanced metrics are rough. Probably not an NBA player at this point.

Kent Bazemore (Kings), -1.4 WAR – 1-year deal with Golden State

                    • UFA, Wing, $19.3M
                    • Logical Jazz target? Baze gets a tough rap because he’s nowhere near good enough to justify his salary, but he quietly had a pretty good defensive year: +1.91 D-PIPM and slightly above the mean when guarding the ball in P&R. He’s also a decent outside shooter, and could be a solid discount signing for someone.

Vince Carter (Hawks), -1.4 WAR – Retiring

Ky Bowman (Warriors), -1.6 WAR – Training camp contract with LAC

                      • Waived, Point, $900K
                      • Logical Jazz target? The Dubs’ many injuries opened the door for Bowman to play more, but the production wasn’t quite there — as evidenced by the Warriors moving on.

Matthew Dellavedova (Cavs), -1.9 WAR – 1-year minimum deal to stay in Cleveland

                      • UFA, Point, $9.6M
                      • Logical Jazz target? Despite two straight rough years shooting from outside, Delly still has decent defensive numbers. He’d have to be ready to be a deep bench role player, though.

Frank Jackson (Pelicans), -1.9 WAR – Agreed to join OKC

                      • RFA, Point, $1.6M
                      • Logical Jazz target? Probably not worth playing the RFA game with someone who would be outside Utah’s rotation anyway — especially since he is a minus defender and a bad outside shooter.

Treveon Graham (Hawks), -2.2 WAR – Camp contract w/ Milwaukee

                      • UFA, Wing, $1.6M
                      • Logical Jazz target? The onetime Jazz camper has bounced around despite good shooting numbers and multi-year defensive numbers that are right around average. That said, he’s been a borderline rotation player on lottery teams, which doesn’t inspire a ton of confidence for a playoff team looking for rotation contributors..

Dwayne Bacon (Hornets), -2.2 WAR – Agreed to sign with Orlando

                      • UFA, Wing, $1.6M
                      • Logical Jazz target? He has size and length and has defended well enough to get a deep bench shot somewhere. His 2018-19 numbers show evidence of a decent shooting stroke (even though he slumped this past season).

Carmelo Anthony (Blazers), -2.2 WAR – Returning to Portland on a 1-year deal

                      • UFA, Wing, $2.6M (prorated)
                      • Logical Jazz target? Despite all the good pub he got for a mini resurgence in Portland, he has still delivered replacement-level value (or worse) for the last three seasons. Hard to imagine him being interested in Utah anyway.

                      • Dewayne Dedmon (Detroit), Big, -1.9 WAR
                      • Rodney McGruder (Detroit), Wing, -0.5 WAR
                      • Nicolas Batum (Charlotte), Wing, 0.0 WAR – Agreed with LAC
