Cleanse the Palate with the Flash

Tonight is your chance to get ready for the Jazz-Spurs game and spend the first part of the evening with the D-League, where salaries match those in local school districts and the players don’t give up 29 points in the fourth quarter to floppy haired 7-foot perimeter players.

PROVO, Utah, Nov. 2, 2009 – The Utah Flash and Pinnacle Security are hosting their annual NBA Development League Draft party at the Pinnacle Security Gymnasium on Thursday, Nov. 5 beginning at 5 p.m. MT.

The Pinnacle Gym, which also serves as the Flash’s main practice and training facility, is located at 1290 South Sandhill Road in Orem, on the East side of I-15 at the University Parkway exit.

The draft is eight rounds and will be conducted via conference call from NBA D-League draft headquarters at the NBA TV studios in Atlanta and at locations in each of the 16 league cities. The ninth-annual event will be telecast on NBA TV and streamed on-line (www.nba.com/dleague) beginning at 5 p.m.

The Flash have the fifth selection in the first round and the twelfth pick in the second round of the serpentine draft. The unique draft format allows a team who has the last pick in the first round to have the first pick in the following round. The Tulsa 66ers have the first overall selection.

You realize, don’t you, that the Flash will be sporting a team featuring the U’s Luke Nevill and BYU’s Lee Cummard and coached by the inimitable Mark “Mad Dog” Madsen?

Well, they are. At least if Cummard and Nevill make the team, I suppose.

Utah Flash veterans expected to report to camp on the 15th include Andre Ingram, Carlos Wheeler, Bennett Davis, Dontell Jefferson, James Lang, and Gavin Grant. The Flash will bring a total of 17 players to training camp and Flash opening day rosters will consist of 10 players. Workouts begin on Nov. 15 at the Pinnacle Security Gym in Orem, Utah.

I’ll be tweeting so follow @saltcityhoops if you can’t make it (or if you can, for that matter) to Orem for the draft.

Also, stop in and join ESPN’s Daily Dime live coverage during the Jazz game.

Here’s the preview for tonight’s game.
