Jazz Player Twitter Power Rankings

September 6th, 2013 | by Scott Stevens

The summer months have come and gone. But alas, still no basketball. Apart from the staunch WNBA supporters and our friends across the pond in the Euroleague tournament, all is quiet in hoops land. Don’t worry, we’ll get through this together.

Nowadays, at least, we have all sorts of social media to keep tabs on the players. It’s not like the old days, when Karl would disappear to Alaska for months at a time, leaving fans only to wonder if they’d ever see him again. So when I say the NBA landscape is in the thick of its dark months, I guess we should keep it in perspective.

For many of the NBA players, especially the younger generation, they’re anything but shy when it comes to giving us a glimpse into their personal lives in 140 characters or less.

Twitter has changed things. It has given the everyday fan a chance to have a personal relationship with his/her favorite athletes. While we can’t fully grade the basketball performance of the Jazz players over the summer, we can evaluate their Twitter game.

Introducing the first Jazz Twitter Power Rankings. (Please see below for explanation and breakdown)

TPR

Rankings were based on a few preliminary categories such as number of followers, number of tweets, recent number of tweets (since August 1), and total amount of time on Twitter.

Players positions would then slide up/down based variables such as page design and background images, whether they were a verified account or not, information on the profile such as current city and/or information about the Jazz*, and finally according to the content and relevancy of their tweets. Players were ineligible if they didn’t have a Twitter account, for obvious reasons. Those players include Richard Jefferson, Andres Biedrins and Marvin Williams.
